Description

Dry extract of annurca apple (Malus pumila Miller cultivar Annurca)

Annurca apple extract is a concentrated polyphenolic extract obtained through aqueous extraction of the fruit. The Annnurca apple is a protected variety with PGI designation, which is grown in the Campania region in Southern Italy. The traceability of all stages of the production process is guaranteed, from the raw material cultivation to the product final processing.

The fruit: Annurca apples are very rich source of polyphenols, in particular flavonoids, which give the fruit its strong antioxidant properties. The fruit  is smaller than the other apple varieties and has a pleasant acidulous and scented taste. The Annurca apple has been grown in Campania for at least two thousand years. Some paintings discovered in the excavations of Ercolano are a proof of its close relation with the Roman civilisation and the Campania Felix in particular. With a production of little more than 60,000 tons a year on average, the Annurca apple accounts for 80% of the apple production in Campania and approximately 5% of the national production.

A recent clinical study carried out by the University of Napels has shown that the consumption of Annurcomplex apples helps restore normal cholesterol levels in the blood; a significant reduction of the total cholesterol and bad cholesterol (LDL-C) levels and an increase of good cholesterol (HDL-C) were registered.
